What do we actually mean when we talk about Spas, Hot Tubs and Jacuzzis? What is what?

There is basically no difference between the terms. They are interchangeable and they refer to the same item - A vessel with hot water and jets that feels great to be in.

Hot Tubs

It used to refer to the old hippie style wooden tubs. The ones made from redwood or cedar with a couple of basic jets. Basically they were soaker tubs. The advantage was (or is) that they are deep. You do not have to lay on a recliner to get a full body soak. Also, the wood benches can be adjusted to any height during the installation/ building of them, so a customer can get the jet exactly where he wants it on the back. These days the word Hot tub also refers to a regular spa or Jacuzzi.

These tubs are getting less and less popular. However, we still get request to build them.

Spas

This is the most commonly used term. All manufactures call them "spas". When you type in the word "Spa" in the search engines you will get a list of day and beauty spas. In order to find "spas", try typing in the word "spas" with quotes around it.

Jacuzzi

This was the original name. The company that got started with spas was Jacuzzi brothers. So the name Jacuzzi has become interchangeable with "spas" and "hot tubs". Many people still refer to "spas" as "Jacuzzis". However, the name "Jacuzzi" in many instances also refers to an indoor bathtub with jets.
